Embedded RFIDs

By admin | July 8, 2008

An Embedded Computer or embedded system is formulated and designed to perform specific functions usually for applications that require real time computing. Embedded computers are usually utilized in Industrial Computing applications that may be in medical, gaming or aeronautical fields.

RFID Systems or radio frequency identification systems can also be embedded like embedded systems. If you say you are tagged you have an embedded RFID in you and you can be identified and tracked wherever you go. RFID systems are composed of a reader which is a combination of an antenna and transceiver and a transponder that is called the tag.

RFID systems are often associated with bar codes but they are two different entities. RFID uses radio frequency while bar codes use optical laser or imaging technology. Bar codes are restricted to scanning – just one way; while RFIDs scan and interrogate – a two-way process.

Bar codes are utilized mainly for identification and tracking purposes while RFIDs can offer even more. They function at greater distances especially when they operate at higher frequencies such as at 2.4 GHz, RFIDs are also expected to β€œtag” important documents, car tires, clothes and even people in the future. Nothing or no one can slip away with an RFID tag.
